Kuoni Travel - Our favourite longhaul tour operator which we have used 14 times. They are reasonably priced and always willing to tailor any trip to our requirements without charging any extra for this service. Often cheaper than booking flights and hotels independantly.

Inside Japan Tours - a UK based company that can organise very reasonably priced tours of Japan. We haven’t used them ourselves but we might have been tempted if we had seen them before we organised our own tour. They can arrange the whole package for UK based customers or just the tour without the flights for people in other countries. They also have a page of traveller’s tips and one on Japanese culture which you might find useful when planning a tour of Japan.

Expedia - The UK version of one of the biggest and most popular on-line travel agents. We have only used them to book cheap flights but they can also book hotels, cars, insurance or package holidays. For US based Expedia click here.

Traveleader - US based on-line hotel reservation site. We have used them to book hotels in the US at discount prices. They also can book hotels in many other countries tto but we haven't used this service yet.

Leeds and Holbeck Building Society - They currently provide us with our annual worldwide travel insurance for an extremely competitive price that is lower than most single trip insurance premiums.

Travel advisories from the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office - up to date information about any potential risks for most destinations in the world.

U.S. State Department Travel Warnings - a slightly more alarmist version of the above.

Clinnix - Essential up-to-date health and travel advice for visitors to foreign countries to give you an indication of what vaccines etc. you might need from your doctor or travel clinic and what precautions you need to take when visiting foreign countries. Sadly, it doesn't seem to like Netscape

World Travel Guide - health, visa, tourist attractions, maps, transport... you name it - its there for most destinations in the world.

World Weather forecasts from CNN - find out what the weather is like anywhere in the world (also available from their European site). To help plan the best time of the year, weatherwise, to visit a destination we use an excellent book: Fodor's World Weather Guide

Altavista Babelfish translator - translate web pages or plain text to/from English, French, German, Italian, Portugese and Spanish.

Electricity around the world - Voltage, frequency and socket types for electrical supplies around the world (here's another site that provides the same information: Voltage Valet)

Australian Tourist Commission - An excellent resource we used to plan our tour down-under.

Pro-dive for diving in Australia's Barrier Reef - This helped us choose which of their dive cruises to go on

Japanese National Tourist Organisation (JNTO) - the official Japanese tourist guide to Japan

Schauwecker's Guide to Japan - an excellent background to all aspects of life in Japan

Peru Explorer - A very thorough guide for the visitor to Peru including essential information about the country, its attractions and itineraries of tours.
