Dear Chris and Lina , It was nice browsing through your page about Japan. (and previous spots too) . Congratulations , well done ! It is very imformative. I also love traveling when ever I find the time for it. (so far I have visited more than 100 countries) in the past 18 years. The shortest time around the world was for me in 115 days with a cruise liner ! just assume. Before Singapore I have lived already in Kuala Lumpur , Bali , Berlin , London , Switzerland , Beijing and Manila.
Please feel free and visit my personal web page and read for example my story which I took back in 1998 with The Trans - Siberian Train from Beijing to Moscow . (CD-ROM Power point presentation available with more than 300 stunning pictures) .
Question to you : Would you go again or can you recommend me in going to Machu Pichu ? (this I would like to do next) .
Last comment or suggestion to your pages: Why don't you tell to your readers with what kind of camera you took the shoots ! (Ed: Thanks for the suggestion, Joachim, we've now added a page with this info)
And yes , I would like to be informed whenever you are going to add a new travel story you have experienced. just mail it to me.
Best regards and Happy ,save and healthy traveling in the year 2001

Hi ! I went through almost all of the tour reports you guys have written. They are really good. On reading your Niagara - Toronto tour I realised I had missed some sights when I had been there some months back ! Though I am from India, I stay in USA and believe it or not, I havent been to the Taj as yet! I have a lot of "must-see" places on my list, but money and time are acting as hindrances. Ya, I hope one day I can see atleast some of the places you guys have been to, atleast the Taj !
Wishing you happy travelling in your future !

Can you help us with a quiz question about Niagara?
What can you hear during daylight hours at Niagara that you can't hear at night?
Merry Christmas
(Ed: Our answer was “The falls” as we remembered that they divert almost all of the water to the hydro-electric plant at night - although this is actually done quite a bit after nightfall. Jocelyn emailed us after the quiz to say that our answer was correct!)

Wow, your trip sounded great. It's a great idea to put your itinerary on the net cause it's really hard to find any details by the more traditional methods on where to go and when etc. - my husband and I are going to Japan next Spring and have found the Internet is the place to go to find out for definite!
We're just trying to get a bit of background on the area, places to see etc. However, we are trying to do our trip as cheaply as possible, we both really want to go but can't afford to do it in style (unfortunately!!!) - have you got any tips that we might be able to follow that might mean we save a few pennies but still get to experience some of the historical and modern elements of Japan? We'd be really grateful for any hints.
Thanks once again for making the effort with your site, it's been very well done.

Hello. My name is Chris. I am a professor in sociology over here at San Francisco State University. My co-author, Ming-cheng (prof. of soc. at UC Davis) and I have recently written an article which in part concerns Meiji Jingu. In perusing your wonderful site, I came across your picture of the torii gate of Meiji Jingu. This photo would work well in our paper and we are wondering if you might be willing to give us permission to use it. The article is entitled "The Historical Emergence of a 'Familial Society' in Japan." It's going to appear next year in a non-profit, non-commercial scholarly journal, Theory and Society. We will not receive any monetary reward for publishing this article. Your website will, of course, be cited as the source of the photo. Thank you for your consideration of this request. Please, if you have any questions about our article or the journal, do not hesitate to ask.

Well done! What a lovely and interesting site you have! It is indeed enticing reading. And most enviable to see that you have visited so many countries at such a relatively young age too!!
I chance upon your site when I was looking up the Yahoo! chat list under the category of travel writing.
I, too, have a great appetite for travelling, which explain why I used to work in the hotel industry. My most memorable trips must be the one done over one month to UK and Europe and recently a lucky short break to San Fransciso and the surrounding regions.
I have attempted to put my experience on the web and is building a site on my UK trip as an experiment. But my effort is a far cry from your well designed, well planned site. It is an inspiration for me to work harder on my site.
Once again congratulations!!

I really enjoyed reading your page -my husband and I were in Kl and Malaysia for Dec 1998/January 1999 - We hired a car and traveled extensively on both East and West Coast and had a week on the beach in Penang. Malachi continues to be one of my favourite destinations but all in all our experiences were similar those enjoyed by yourselves. Most hair raising part of our trip was driving to the Cameron Highlands - it was like the worst kind of "dodge em ride" . because of Ramadan we spent a fairly long night New years Eve in the middle of a funny little village just south of Khota Baru - without much food !!! it all added to the experiences and we happily return this December and January to repeat some of the experiences, retrace old ground and discover fresh.
Thank you for your page it lifted my spirits - Travel is such a wonderful privilege,

You will be sick of me and also think I have nothing to do!! However in my break I read your aussie trip - Well Done quite an accurate report. I lived in Cairns for three years and of course have covered all areas of Australia including those you enjoyed. Observation - Snake and Witchety Grub are very tasty quite like chicken - my family and I ate these items regularly when we lived on Mornington Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria - as a child I ate the grubs fresh and fire cooked dipped in wild bees honey collected by my aboriginal baby sitters - also lots of other stuff including bush rat - somehow when you are young this is always an adventure.
Interestingly my husband and I were in Melbourne at a Conference during the gas explosion it was cool weather and we were staying at the Hilton UG! cold showers for a week ( not nice ) and no linen or towels changes - a bit of a pain when you still have to pay top $ 300+ delegates were not too impressed - able to have hot showers at my daughters house did not think I would have missed the comforts so much. Amazing I can travel overseas and outback Oz and not miss them - hit the city and well!!! -
I have also read your Indian odessey and am enjoying your site immensely - I have added it to my favourites list. I would love to walk in your shoes

Hi it is me again ( don't groan) I do not expect any reply
Just spent my lunch hour reading your Japanese trip and I wish I could win the lottery and leave immediately. It was wonderful - I am passing it on to our Teacher of Japanese ( I work as a secretary in a Grammar School) one of our teachers has resided there so I will steer her to your web page ( I am sure it will interest her ). We also have an ex teacher working and living in Japan and our School hosts exchange students regularly sometimes for a week at a time - our students billet them and the whole programme is very insightful and worthwhile. In fact it is hoped that our students may be doing a tour of Japan in 2001.
I am enjoying all your adventures and appreciated seeing your photos ( now I can put faces to names) - I have a huge library of travel books and I really think you should put pen to paper and put together a book of your travels ( or a small book about each trip) Your style, obviously evolving all the time and giving so much pleasure would make an impact on the market I am sure. I cannot wait to share your adventures with friends of mine who love to travel as we do.

Hi, Chris & Lina,
My name is Juichi from Japan. I had a look at your Traveladdicts web site and deeply impressed that your travel in Japan was well considered, carried out and you have keen observation to our custom, culture and so on. I fully support what you intended on your web, so that I will point out some small mistakes stated in your web.
>Tokyo (which means Western Capital)
Tokyo (which means Eastern Capital)
>how thin the yellow pages telephone directory was in Tokyo and even more surprised when we saw that it covered the whole of Japan and not just Tokyo.
The thick yellow pages telephone directories were often criticized for waste of paper, woods and forest. Therefore they had been divided into about two hundred local areas and they have about one thousand pages each or about 30 mm-thick each. I suppose you saw a special version of telephone directory.
>Yokohama is Japan's second largest city
Yokohama is Japan's third largest city Second is the city of Osaka.
Those are all for today. I have read about half of your pages.

Hello Chriss / Lina, I went thru your interesting site on travel (or should i say travails) in India. I found it pretty much demeaning that you chose to focus on the ugly side of India. No country is perfect. I believe those who come down to India should become part of it and enjoy what India has to offer. Ours is a culture as old as time itself, and our way of life is different from the kind of life u are used to in the US or Europe.
No other country in the world can have such diversity as India does and still exist (in relative harmony) for over 50 years without tripping over. I do hope you will be more sensitive to such things before putting it up on the web. India is on the verge of great changes, such articles only help in maintaining cliched images of the great country...
Ps: May be the next time when u come down, I would be glad to take you around the country and show you its riches

Good luck - and may your itineraries always be fulfilling!

Just wanted to congratulate you on this site, excellent.
My wife and myself have a trip planned for 3 weeks in January 2001 and your site has really helpled us plan for the trip.   We are fortunate to have friends in Sydney who will show us the city, we were thinking of hiring a car for 3/4 days to get out of the city.  I was thinking of heading north up the coast.  I am however conscious that the distances involved are substantial.  I have been looking for some kind of route planning software/site to give us an indication of distances/time between destinations.  But I cannot find anything like this for Australia, have you come across anything in your travels?
Also, I am conscious that 3 weeks is no where near enough to cover comprehensively this country.  My plan is to cover Sydney and surrounding areas, Ayers Rock and the Barrier Reef for some scuba diving.  I appreciate that this is an impossible question but is there anything else that "we could not possibly miss if going to Australia" that you think we should consider?

I've visited your "postcard' from malaysia, and I must say, the pictures I have seen there are awsome! What makes it so special for me is that those pics are big enough to use as desktop pictures! I absolutely love KL, been there myself, unfortunately I don't have a scanner or one of those digital camera's to put the few pictures I have on my computer, so these pics you put online really are a blessing for me. I want to go back one day, however financial reasons do not alow it at this time. But you know, now I can dream while sitting behind my pc. Maybe I ask to much here... and even though the trip dates back to '98, is it possible to send me a few more of those huge sized pictures? Oh well... I've got no, I can ask for a yes can't I? Either way, thank you very much!

As a new user of the web and a very keen world traveller I was thrilled to find your website on your experiences in Japan. My wife Dot and myself have visited 35 countries, not as many as yourselves. We have just returned from Scandivavia. Norway has to be the most expensive country to visit.   I was in Japan during thr Korean war and used to visit Miya Jima often as we had a convelescent home on the island for the wounded. I have always wanted to revisit Japan and we have decided to go next year. The information you presented was excellent, we both enjoyed reading it. We are probably going to combine the visit with a trip down the Yangtse. Have you any experience of this?
We are both very keen on the U.S. and by the end of August we hope to have visited 22 states. We used to caravan in Europe, also Canada and New Zealand, but now we prefer some one else to take the strain!
Thank you for such an informative travel tale. It has been most helpful.

Hi !! My name is Alexander, I'm 19 years old and I'm from Malmo which is the third biggest city in Sweden... I were born in the northern part of Thailand, but as I wrote earlier I live in Malmo... The main reason why I write a letter to you is that I have been in KL too and it was in the summer 1998 and I can only say one thing..... KL is my favourite city. Btw.. you didn't wrote anything about KLIA (which I think you should do) and the link you wrote on the page didn't work =(
KLIA were only 3 days old when I came to KL. and Petronas Twintowers were not that old either... I'm so happy that I came 3 days after KLIA were oppened =)
I think you explored more then I did, beacuse my final destiny were Penang which I think you should visit some day... it's so beautifull and peacefull there... Sorry... I can't wrote more than this... and it's all beacuse my English sucks to much... Before I finish this very short e-mail I have to ask you a question ?? Do you think it's difficult to move to KL ?
